Entry No. 14 — the Santa Barbara file — filed under: artist studio
Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts
The preserved adobe home and working ceramics studio of Beatrice Wood, the 'Mama of Dada' who modeled for Marcel Duchamp, ran with the 1920s Arensberg avant-garde circle in New York, and kept throwing her luster-glazed pots — nudes, chalices held up by tiny monkeys — until she died at 105, crediting chocolate and the company of young men.
The move: Show up on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon (11am-5pm, $10), walk her actual studio and kiln yard, see her personal art collection hung the way she left it, then wander into downtown Ojai for coffee.
