Court of Mysteries (Kitchen Brothers' Yogi Temple)

Brothers Kenneth and Raymond Kitchen hand-laid this brick 'yogi temple' in the 1930s-40s, reportedly working only by moonlight to dodge building inspectors, inlaying a triangular 'Gate of Prophecy' tablet with abalone shell and moon-and-star symbols Kenneth believed would herald an 'Age of Peace' when the celestial alignments matched. Local lore adds a wartime layer: two obelisks on the property are said to have doubled as a homemade submarine-detection antenna.

The move: Walk the residential block on Fair Avenue at dusk, read the abalone-inlaid Gate of Prophecies by flashlight, and swap theories about what the Kitchen brothers were really building — it's private property, so this is a slow look-and-linger date, not a tour.
