Entry No. 56 — the Spokane file — filed under: haunted
Elberton Ghost Town
Roughly an hour south of Spokane in the rolling Palouse, Elberton was a busy timber and fruit town until decline left it formally disincorporated by 1966. What remains is a scatter of weathered homes, leaning barns, rusting cars, and abandoned farm equipment slowly being reclaimed by grass. It is a quiet, eerie spot reached by a maze of country roads off Highway 195, with almost no other visitors around.
The move: Pack a thermos and slowly poke around the abandoned buildings, then watch the light go gold over the Palouse hills.
