Cooke's Mill (ruins)

Cooke's Mill, also known as Marvin's Mill or Houghs Mill, is a historic gristmill and canal lock site along Goose Creek dating back to the late 18th century. The mill and its lock system were sacked and burned by Union forces during the Civil War. Today, stone foundations and masonry remnants of the mill and canal lock remain nestled in a heavily wooded area along the creek.

The move: Embark on a scenic paddling trip down Goose Creek to view the historic stone ruins from the water, or enjoy a peaceful hike along the nearby Two Creeks Trail Area.

📍 Before you go The ruins are located on private residential property at 42485 Cochran Mill Road, but they can be legally viewed by boaters and kayakers on Goose Creek.
