Entry No. 54 — the Anchorage file — filed under: after-dark
Thomas Planetarium at the Anchorage Museum
Tucked inside the Anchorage Museum, this small full-dome theater runs a rotating mix that swings from serious astronomy to full-tilt music nights synced to the dome. The summer calendar leans into late-evening fare like Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here' plus a Led Zeppelin dome show, alongside aurora and James Webb science programs. There is also a monthly 'Space Mission' series run with NASA Solar System Ambassadors and the Southcentral Alaska Astronomical Society, and the museum stays open to 9 p.m. on first Fridays.
The move: Catch an after-hours Pink Floyd dome show, then drift through the dark planetarium lobby debating which track hit hardest under the stars.
📍 Before you go Show topics rotate; the late music shows (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin) are specific dated events, so check the museum calendar and buy ahead. Extended-to-9pm hours are first Fridays.
