Entry No. 55 — the Anchorage file — filed under: after-dark
UAA Planetarium & Visualization Theater
Alaska's largest planetarium sits on the UAA campus under a 33-foot dome with 62 seats, rebuilt in 2024 around all-digital projection and two Sony GTZ380 laser projectors pushing more than 12 million pixels. The lineup runs heavy on Alaska-flavored sky science like 'Aurora Storm,' 'Above Alaska,' and 'Awesome Light,' plus black-hole and deep-space shows. It is dark enough that they warn it can spook little kids, which makes it a good adults-night pick, and seats sell out so reservations are smart.
The move: Reserve two seats for an 'Aurora Storm' or 'Above Alaska' show and lean back under the laser dome while the Alaskan night sky wheels overhead.
📍 Before you go Shows are popular and the theater is small (62 seats), so reserve via UAATix in advance. Email [email protected] or call (907) 786-1838 for the current schedule.
