Entry No. 15 — the Atlanta file — filed under: artist colony
The Goat Farm Arts Center
A 12-acre 19th-century cotton-gin-and-textile-mill ruin, still "frozen in time," now packed with studios for hundreds of artists, a pebble-filled courtyard, the hollowed-out Goodson Yard event space, and a donation-based coffee shop called War Horse. One local called it "Atlanta's worst kept secret" — the kind of place you have to already know exists.
The move: Wander the industrial ruins at dusk, grab a coffee at War Horse, and see whatever gallery show, dance rehearsal, or open studio happens to be spilling out of the brick buildings that night — the programming changes constantly, so no two visits are alike.
