Eagle Eye Observatory at Canyon of the Eagles

A working public observatory beside a Hill Country resort above Lake Buchanan, run by the Austin Astronomical Society and aimed with a 16-inch Ealing Cassegrain and 12.5-inch Newtonian at nebulae and galaxies well past the reach of the city's light dome. Star parties run on scheduled nights (typically weekends, not every night), and walkways are lit in red so nobody's night vision gets wrecked before the show starts.

The move: Book the evening astronomer-led session (roughly 8-10:30pm depending on season), then take the dark drive back down Ranch Road 2341 with the windows down before the Highland Lakes fully go quiet.
