Inside a 19th-century living-history park, an operating forge program lets you swing a hammer at a real coal fire and walk out with something you made — including a class literally called "Craft A Spike Knife," where the blade starts life as a railroad spike.

The move: Sign up together for the Blacksmith Knife or Craft a Spike Knife class — you'll each forge, grind, and finish your own blade start to finish (leather sheath class available separately), a very different kind of "we made this" souvenir than a pottery mug.
