Entry No. 60 — the Boise file — filed under: roadside-oddity
Lawson's Emu-Z-Um (Lawson's Legacy Museum)
A sprawling private museum about 60 miles south of Boise that grew from four rooms into more than 50, each crammed with thousands of Old West and oddball artifacts. The collection includes a circus room, a trapper cabin, a taxidermy room, a military room, and one room holding 498 'hen on nest' dishes, plus the former contents of the old Silver City museum. Among the stranger objects are an egg-vending machine, a moonshine still, chicken de-beakers, antique milkshake makers, a pink pay phone and a 1952 fire truck. The whimsical name comes from the 100-plus emus the founding Lawson family once raised on the ranch.
The move: Take the two-hour guided tour through the maze of rooms and quiz each other on what the weirdest gadget actually did.
