Tenney Castle ruins

Perched atop a hill in Greycourt State Park, these are the remains of Grey Court (also known as Tenney Castle), a grand Gilded Age mansion built in 1893 for hat manufacturer Charles H. Tenney. After being abandoned and gutted by an arsonist's fire in 1977, the chateau-style estate was largely demolished in 1985. Today, the stabilized ruins feature surviving granite foundations, stone arches, and pillars that visitors can freely explore.

The move: Take a scenic stroll through the 24-acre state park, photograph the striking stone arches and castle foundations, and enjoy a quiet picnic on the surrounding lawns.
