Shelby American Collection
Tucked into a nondescript Boulder industrial park next to a heating and cooling company, the Shelby American Collection is one of the most significant Carroll Shelby archives on earth — hiding in plain sight since 1996. Founded by a group of local enthusiasts with Carroll Shelby himself involved until his death in 2012, the nonprofit volunteer-run museum displays more than 40 cars: 289 and 427 Cobras, Daytona Coupes, Willment Coupes, GT40s, GT350s, and GT500s, many of them race-used originals. The warehouse setting strips away gift-shop theatrics; you walk in and there they are, some of the rarest, most valuable, and most authentic race cars ever built, surrounded by trophies, period photography, and documentation that places each car in its specific contest.
The move: Show up Saturday, pay $10 each at the door, and spend two hours in a warehouse full of cars that changed motorsport history. The no-frills atmosphere sparks real conversation — every car has a race record and a story, and the volunteer staff will gladly tell you both.
📍 Before you go Open Saturdays 10am–4pm with no reservation needed; just show up and pay $10 at the door (kids 12 and under free). Weekday visits are available Monday–Thursday by appointment only at $25 per person, bookable via their online system. The building is in a low-key office/industrial park — look for the Chaparral Court address rather than signage. Parking is on-site and easy. Photography is welcome inside. Closed Fridays and Sundays.
