Fairmont Hot Springs Resort

A sprawling resort about 15 miles west of Butte with indoor and outdoor mineral soaking pools plus large swimming pools, the hot pools running around 100-104 degrees. The outdoor pools stay open to 10 PM, so you can soak in steaming mineral water with the Rocky Mountains as a dark backdrop and stars overhead. Pool access is limited to registered overnight guests, condo-association and pool/golf members, plus RV-park and chalet guests who pay a daily fee, so plan to book a stay.

The move: Book a night and slip into the outdoor mineral pool after dark, steam rising off the water while you pick out constellations over the Pintlers.
