Magnolia Cemetery

A 92-acre Victorian rural cemetery built on a former rice plantation after a 1850s yellow-fever outbreak, where the H.L. Hunley submarine's lost crew is buried and one infant's grave, for Rosalie Raymond White (d. 1882), is carved into the shape of a bassinet complete with a 19th-century death mask.

The move: Follow the live-oak paths to the Hunley crew's graves and Rosalie Raymond White's bassinet-shaped tomb, then each pick out the most striking funerary carving you find and compare notes.
