Entry No. 31 — the Cincinnati file — filed under: outdoor
The Cincinnati Mushroom House
Designed over 10 years by late architect Terry Brown and his University of Cincinnati DAAP students, this whimsical home and studio stands as a living architectural sculpture embedded in Hyde Park. Its exterior features spiraling steel staircases, warped cedar shingles, copper cladding, curved stained glass, and mushroom-gill motif windows.
The move: Grab a coffee from Hyde Park Square and take a sidewalk walking tour along Erie Avenue to inspect the mosaic tile details and organic copper curves of the exterior before heading to the nearby Cincinnati Observatory.
