Oasis Bordello Museum

Tipped off to an impending 1988 federal raid, the madam and her workers grabbed what they could carry and vanished overnight, and the upstairs rooms were sealed and left almost exactly as they fled. Today guided tours wind past the price lists, clothing still hanging in the rooms, toiletries, and a refrigerator whose decades-old contents have long since gone rancid. It is a strange, intimate time capsule of an illegal trade that operated openly in this mining town for nearly a century.

The move: Take the half-hour guided tour together, then wander Wallace's tiny historic downtown to find the manhole cover declaring the town the Center of the Universe.
