Entry No. 33 — the Coeur d'Alene file — filed under: oddities
North Idaho Trading Co.
Self-billed the "Weirdest Little Shop in the Northwest," this maze of rooms in historic Wallace packs more than 150 pieces of taxidermy alongside antiques, old firearms, and curiosities. Its showpieces include a roughly six-foot mummified "mermaid," a full-body articulated human skeleton, and an albino elk mount. The shop dates back decades and was expanded with oddities after the current owner took it over in 2018.
The move: Make the drive up I-90 into the Silver Valley, hunt down the mummified mermaid and skeleton together, then debate which weird artifact you'd actually take home over coffee in downtown Wallace.
