Sunlight Peak Observatory (FRCC Larimer Campus)
Front Range Community College runs a domed teaching observatory wedged between the Harmony Library and the Gray's Peak building on its Larimer Campus, and opens it free to the public on observatory nights (typically the first Friday of the month in fall and spring). Sessions usually run 8 to 10 p.m.; amateur astronomers are invited to wheel their own scopes into the courtyard alongside the dome's instrument. The observatory is unheated, so it is very much a bundle-up-and-look-skyward affair.
The move: Drive to the FRCC campus on a free observatory night, climb up to the dome, and queue at the telescope while backyard astronomers in the courtyard show off their own rigs.
📍 Before you go Free, no reservations; held weather-permitting on scheduled observatory nights. Located between Harmony Library and Gray's Peak building; unheated, dress warm.
