Dr. Bob's Folk Art

Self-taught artist Dr. Bob has worked out of this Bywater studio since the 1990s, churning out his instantly recognizable bottle-cap-framed signs and painted folk pieces. The hand-lettered 'Be Nice or Leave' sign began as a way to ward off interruptions to his work, then became his calling card after copies kept getting stolen. The cluttered gallery is a working studio where pieces range from twenty-dollar trinkets to five-figure works, and you may run into Dr. Bob himself.

The move: Browse the bottle-cap-bordered signs together and split the cost of a small one to take home as a deliberately tacky shared souvenir.
