Entry No. 4 — the Oklahoma City file — filed under: oddities
Beloved Bones
OKC's only dedicated oddities-and-curiosities shop, founded by Mekala Littleton in 2017 with a storefront since 2022, stocked with taxidermy, wet specimens, insect art, and medical, religious, and funerary pieces (all human and animal remains ethically sourced). It shares a building with The Sanctuary, a DIY music venue, so cinema nights, art shows, and touring bands sometimes share the room.
The move: Go slow through the cabinets together picking out the single weirdest object you'd each take home, then time your visit to a Sanctuary cinema night or live show in the same building to turn browsing into a full evening.
📍 Before you go Find it in the Plaza District, OKC's compact, walkable arts neighborhood: the shop sits on N Indiana Avenue, a side street just off the main NW 16th Street strip, so park along 16th and walk the half-block over. It shares its building with The Sanctuary, so glance at that venue's calendar before you come and you can fold a cinema night, art show, or touring band into the same trip. Heads-up that the inventory includes real human and animal remains, so this leans macabre by design. Weekends and the district's monthly First Friday art walk are the liveliest windows, with galleries, bars, and dinner spots all within an easy stroll.
