Entry No. 6 — the Sacramento file — filed under: bathhouse
Asha Urban Baths
Sacramento's only wellness bathhouse, opened in 2016 by a former yoga-studio owner who fell for a Sonoma County bathhouse 18 years earlier and wanted the ritual without the $400 Calistoga price tag. You move barefoot between a 200-degree cedar sauna and a 62-degree cold plunge, phones banned, voices kept to a murmur, melodic meditation music piped through the whole coed space.
The move: Go on a rotating 'silent hour' night (Wed/Fri/Sun), work the hot-cold circuit side by side without talking, then break silence over kombucha and vegan baked goods from the retail nook before a shared massage slot.
