San Anto Cultural Arts — West Side Mural Program
Founded in 1993 by Manny Castillo, Cruz Ortiz and Juan Miguel Ramos, this nonprofit has painted more than 60 community murals across San Antonio's Westside — an open-air, walkable gallery documenting the neighborhood's own history in paint, including 'Familia y Cultura es Vida' wrapped around the Chiquita Bakery. There's no admission and no gift shop; the installation is the neighborhood itself.
The move: Start at the office on El Paso St, get pointed toward the nearest cluster of murals, and spend an afternoon walking or biking the Westside street grid hunting down the full set, ending with pan dulce at Chiquita Bakery under its own mural.
