Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary — Occult & Mystical in San Francisco

Entry No. 6 — the San Francisco file — filed under: cedar enzyme bath

Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary

You lie down in a redwood tub and get buried up to your neck in a warm, springy mound of cedar fiber and rice bran that's actively fermenting — the heat comes from live enzymes breaking down the wood, not a heater, so the LA Times described it as being buried up to your head in compost. Afterward you're wrapped in blankets on a floating bed inside a Kyoto-style Japanese garden.

The move: Book the cedar enzyme bath together in adjoining tubs, get swaddled for the blanket-wrap rest afterward, then wander the koi ponds and Japanese garden paths before driving back through the redwoods.
