Audium: Theatre of Sound-Sculptured Space

A windowless theater wired with 176-plus speakers where founder Stan Shaff composes 'sound sculptures' that move over, under, and through you in total darkness. Presented weekly in San Francisco since 1967.

The move: Sit in the pitch-black theater for a weekend Sound Hour performance (Fri/Sat, tickets via City Box Office) and hold hands in the dark while the sound orbits the room — it's disorienting enough that you'll end up gripping each other.

Where: 1616 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94109

Hours: Added 2026-07-20 — confirm current hours before you go.
