Entry No. 19 — the San Francisco file — filed under: blacksmithing
The Crucible
A 56,000-square-foot converted industrial building running 19 departments at once — blacksmithing forges, glassblowing furnaces, an iron foundry, and a neon-bending shop all under one roof, founded in Berkeley in 1999 and moved to West Oakland in 2003.
The move: Book the 3-Hour Taster Foundry class and pour molten aluminum into sand molds you carved together, or take a beginning blacksmithing session and each forge your own fire poker or S-hook at neighboring anvils.
