Entry No. 33 — the Seattle file — filed under: speakeasy-bar
The Alley
Tucked behind 4509 California Ave SW in West Seattle, this hidden cocktail room is reached by walking down the alley, through a plain metal door, and into what looks like an ordinary supply room stacked with coolers and metal lockers. One locker has a knob hidden inside and swings open into a velvet-and-chandelier space with brick walls, an antique fireplace, and live jazz on Sunday and Monday nights. The menu leans Prohibition-era cocktails alongside small bites like a meat-and-cheese plate and macarons. Open Thursday through Sunday, evenings only.
The move: Order pho up front, then sneak through the rigged locker door into the chandelier-lit speakeasy for Bee's Knees and Cajun wings, ideally on a live-jazz night.
📍 Before you go Enter through Bonjour Vietnam; face the metal lockers and open the third door from the bottom right. Open 5pm-midnight Sun-Thu, until 2am Fri-Sat; live jazz some Sun/Mon nights around 8pm.
