Karg Art Glass

Rollin Karg's working hot shop sits in tiny Kechi, where the gallery glitters with the kind of large abstract glass sculpture that shows up in museum collections. Their year-round blow-your-own program puts you on the pipe beside the studio's glassblowers, gathering molten glass straight from the furnace. You shape it into an ornament, paperweight, egg, or seasonal pumpkin before it goes off to anneal overnight. Sessions are scheduled by phone, Tuesday through Sunday during set hours.

The move: Take turns on the blowpipe gathering glowing glass from the furnace and shaping it into a paperweight or pumpkin to take home.
