Wichita Boathouse Full Moon Kayak Paddle

Wichita Parks & Recreation runs guided moonlight paddles on the Arkansas River that are an exception to the normal sunrise-to-sunset water rule. Paddlers decked out in glow sticks and lights float toward the Keeper of the Plains, sometimes timed to catch the ring of fire pots being lit at the iconic sculpture. The night ends with desserts and snacks on the Boathouse patio.

The move: Strap on glow sticks, launch a tandem kayak from the Boathouse ramp at dusk, and paddle the river toward the lit Keeper of the Plains before splitting dessert on the patio.

📍 Before you go Pre-registration required and space is limited; fee runs about $40-$50 including instruction and equipment. Dates are seasonal and tied to the moon - check Wichita Parks & Rec for the 2026 schedule.
