Sallie Barber Mine

Perched high in the Golden Horseshoe mining district near Breckenridge, the Sallie Barber Mine is a historic zinc mine established in 1880. Today, visitors can hike or bike to the site to find a well-preserved wooden headframe, ore bins, and a steel-grated shaft. The surrounding area offers expansive views of French Gulch and the remnants of Summit County's rich mining era.

The move: Hike or snowshoe the scenic 2.8-mile round-trip Sallie Barber Trail together, stopping at the summit to photograph the historic wooden headframe and enjoy panoramic mountain views.

📍 Before you go The mine site is located along a public trail managed for historic preservation, but the actual mine shaft is securely grated and the remaining wooden structures are structurally unstable and fenced off for safety.
