Entry No. 9 — the Bozeman file — filed under: haunted
Virginia City Ghost Walk
Virginia City is a preserved 1860s gold-rush town with a genuinely violent past of vigilante hangings and unsolved murders, and the Montana Heritage Commission runs an after-dark Ghost Walk mixing that documented history with the town's ghost lore. The Bonanza, once the Sisters of Charity hospital, and other original buildings turn up in the stories. The town's full programming runs roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day, so this is a summer-season outing.
The move: Drive out for a summer afternoon in the gold-rush streets, then take the evening Ghost Walk through the same buildings once the crowds thin.
📍 Before you go Roughly 75 miles southwest of Bozeman; seasonal (about Memorial Day to Labor Day). Call the Montana Heritage Commission (406-843-5373) to confirm tour times before driving out.
