Yellowstone Gateway Museum

Tucked into the old 1907 North Side School, this Park County museum fills a three-story brick building with an eclectic, attic-like sprawl of regional artifacts — over 50,000 objects spanning 12,000-plus years. Themed rooms cover Native cultures, Yellowstone, stories of the West, and a transportation gallery honoring Livingston's depot-town past, while rotating "Ice Age Mammals" and ice-patch archaeology exhibits add fossils and bones to the mix. Outside sit a caboose, a one-room schoolhouse, and a blacksmith shop, giving the whole place a wonderfully scattered, dig-through-the-collection feel.

The move: Lose an afternoon roaming the packed floors and the outdoor caboose, then grab coffee in walkable downtown Livingston.
