Entry No. 39 — the Coeur d'Alene file — filed under: outdoor
Winter Lights
For about ten days each winter, downtown Coeur d'Alene becomes a free, walkable wonderland of large-scale, light-based artworks. Past editions featured roughly 17 installations scattered across downtown, including a glowing walk-through 'Tunnel' on the Resort lawn and 'The Beacon' in McEuen Park, with pieces created by Calgary light-art studio B!g Art alongside local Inland Northwest artists. The outdoor display is entirely free; the separate launch party (Illuminate) is a ticketed 21+ event.
The move: Bundle up and wander the downtown loop after dark, hopping from one glowing installation to the next, then duck into a Sherman Ave bar to thaw out and compare favorites.
📍 Before you go Runs only in late winter (the 2026 edition ran Jan 30 - Feb 8). The free part is the outdoor light walk; the Illuminate launch night is a paid 21+ ticketed party. Confirm current-year dates on cdadowntown.com before planning.
