Entry No. 8 — the Houston file — filed under: folk art

Smither Park

A half-acre folk-art commons built by over 300 artists: a fish-shaped mosaic amphitheater, a marble-roll tower, a meditation garden, and a 400-foot 'Memory Wall' where donated panels embed bottle caps, dominoes, and dead relatives' keepsakes straight into the concrete.

The move: Bring a picnic blanket for the shaded pavilion, hunt the Memory Wall for the strangest embedded object either of you can find, then race marbles down the roll tower.

Where: 2441 Munger St, Houston, TX 77023
