Burnt Mills Grist Mill Ruins

Located within the Burnt Mills Floodplain Preserve, these stone foundations are the remains of a post-Civil War grist mill. Purchased by the Schley family in 1928, the mill was dismantled, leaving behind its historic stone ruins along the Lamington River. Today, the site is surrounded by a scenic 11-acre riparian sanctuary famous for its vibrant spring displays of Virginia bluebells.

The move: Park at the crushed stone pull-off near the Burnt Mills Road bridge and take a romantic walk through the floodplain preserve to photograph the historic stone mill ruins and enjoy the river views.

📍 Before you go The mill ruins are located within the Burnt Mills Floodplain Preserve, an 11-acre nature preserve owned and managed by the Raritan Headwaters Association, which is open daily to the public from dawn to dusk.
