San Diego Firehouse Museum

Run by retired and off-duty firefighters out of a real former fire station (San Diego Fire Station No. 6, in service from 1913), the collection includes a horse-drawn steam pumper, La Jolla's first fire engine, and a chunk of structural steel salvaged from the World Trade Center.

The move: Wander the engine bays reading hand-lettered placards on 100+ years of apparatus, then walk two blocks into Little Italy for pasta and debate which rig you'd have wanted showing up to your house fire in 1920.
