Entry No. 21 — the Santa Fe file — filed under: mobile gallery
Axle Contemporary
A fully functioning contemporary art gallery lives inside a retrofitted 1970 aluminum stepvan — 6x10 feet of white-cube exhibition space with wood ceilings, exposed beams and track lighting — that founders Matthew Chase-Daniel and Jerry Wellman have been parking around Santa Fe since 2010. It has no fixed address; you find it by knowing its rotation.
The move: Track down the van on one of its weekend stops (right now it's parked by the Vladem Museum for the show "I Love You, Mom," July 10–Aug 16, 2026) and walk through a real exhibition inside a moving vehicle, then wander the same block's galleries.
