The Matador

A cash-only downtown Santa Fe dive one level below the sidewalk, reached by ducking down an easily missed stairwell at the Galisteo Street / West San Francisco Street corner (mapped at 116 Galisteo St, basement level). Cult films run on a corner TV (regulars drop off DVDs, including one titled 'Japanese Hell'), and a mark on the ceiling is all that's left of a stripper pole removed from the adjacent room.

The move: Find the stairwell, order tequila sodas, and let a half-remembered '90s action movie flicker on mute in the corner while you talk over the DJ set.
