Entry No. 27 — the Savannah file — filed under: sensory-space
Rousakis Plaza / Echo Square
A concrete X set into the center of Rousakis Plaza (dedicated 1977) off River Street is a genuine acoustic quirk: stand on the X, face the water, and speak — your voice reverberates back sharp and clear, while people just beyond the four curved planters hear almost nothing. No plaque explains it.
The move: Skip the crowds mid-River Street and detour into the plaza; take turns standing on the X to talk, sing, or whisper to each other and compare what you hear from just outside the ring of planters.
