Gallery Alley

A formerly overlooked downtown alley reimagined with Envision into five permanent intersensory sculptures by local artists — built to be heard and touched, with the visually impaired specifically in mind. Free and open 24/7.

The move: Wander the alley after dark and take turns leading each other through the sculptures by sound and touch alone, eyes closed.

📍 Before you go The alley opens off Douglas Avenue just west of the overhead railroad tracks; its street end is marked by an art parklet that doubles as bike parking, and signage at the Shops at Gallery Alley next door (618 E. Douglas) points the way in. Pedestrian-only since 2019 — flat paved walking, no traffic — with Naftzger Park directly across the avenue. The sculptures were designed with Envision for visitors with low or no vision, so touching and listening is the point, not a violation. Pair it with the vintage soda fountain at Old Mill Tasty Shop a few doors down, and note that Final Fridays bring rotating artist exhibits and live music to the alley.
