Entry No. 37 — the Bozeman file — filed under: speakeasy-bar
Stockman's Bar
A revived version of a Stockman Bar that operated downtown from 1942 to 1972, this western saloon is packed with salvaged history: a back bar from a San Francisco hotel, a mural rescued from a shuttered Billings bar, and a cash register that only rings up to six dollars. The real find is the Irish Snug in a back corner — a tiny private room of the kind once used by 19th-century pub-goers who didn't want to be seen, where you order your drinks through the bar.
The move: Slip into the back-corner Irish Snug, order through the bar hatch, and drink surrounded by salvaged frontier-bar relics.
