La Viuda Negra
A tiny Mexico City-style mezcaleria from the brothers behind El Come Taco next door, hidden behind a storefront that looks like a bridal/wedding shop. Inside, shelves of mezcal, sotol, tequila and whiskey glow under blue light, a La Catrina statue watches over the bar, and a projector plays black-and-white films for the 30-or-so patrons in the narrow room. The kitchen sends over tacos, empanadas and chicharrones from El Come Taco.
The move: Walk past the bridal-shop facade on Fitzhugh, slip into the narrow blue-lit room, and share mezcal cocktails like a Tajin-rimmed paloma plus tacos under the gaze of La Catrina and an old black-and-white movie.
📍 Before you go La Viuda Negra hides inside the same Old East Dallas building as El Come Taco at 2513 N Fitzhugh; the tell is a storefront window dressed like a bridal shop, mannequin and all, so look for that rather than a bar sign. The room seats only about thirty and doesn't really take reservations, so a weeknight or an early arrival beats a packed weekend. It sits on a tight residential-edge strip, so expect street parking and keep the volume down outside. Pair it with tacos from El Come Taco next door, and ask whether the seasonal back patio with live music is open.
