Botanica Yemaya

A floor-to-ceiling cavern of candles, incense, oils, charms, and devotional statuary on Federal, serving Afro-Cuban, Latin, and Espiritu spiritual traditions. It's cash-only — there's an ATM across the street — and the staff will actually walk you through what each candle and herb is for if you ask. The only write-up it's gotten is a neighborhood paper's 'hidden in plain sight' piece; the tourist guides have never noticed it.

The move: Bring cash, go in together, and ask the owner to help you pick a candle for an intention you each set — a small, oddly intimate thing — then grab Federal Boulevard tacos after.

📍 Before you go It's a storefront on Federal Boulevard near 38th, on the eastern edge of West Highland — a busy north-south arterial, so plan on street parking out front or on a side street. This is a working botanica serving real Afro-Cuban, Latin, and Espiritu devotional practice, not a novelty stop, so browse with some reverence. Go in daylight, ideally a weekday, when staff have time to walk you through things unhurried; bring small bills. Federal is Denver's great Mexican-food corridor, so taquerías and panaderías for after are right out the door.

Where: 3773 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80211 (near 38th & Federal; cash only, ATM across the street)

Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 10am-4pm per listings (some sources differ); cash only — bring cash.
