Houston Fire Museum

Houston's oldest firehouse, a 1899 Romanesque brick building that served as Fire Station No. 7 until 1968, now holds a hand-drawn pumper, a horse-drawn steam engine, and a rare 1912 American Automatic water tower engine — the only one the Houston Fire Department ever ran. You can still slide down the original fire pole.

The move: Take turns on the fire pole, then compare notes on the horse-drawn steam engine versus the 1912 water tower rig before wandering Midtown for dinner.
